In my defence: Boredom made me do it.

Why is it that I have such a weak spot for charity auction fics?

On and off all day I've been trying to find a GOOD WaTfic that I haven't read before. Crazy, I know, but what the hell. I even went to the Pit! I'm a snob and I know it, and I just can't look past the misplaced apostrophes and the mixed tenses and the general shabby writing that some people wrap an otherwise possibly good story in. (I can't say they aren't good stories, some of them, because I give up before I get far enough to say there's no chance they turn out better than I would assume.)

So now I found a charity auction fic. I'm guessing it doesn't have any other merit than Sam being forced to sell herself for some worthy cause. And then of course there's some romantic musing on Martin's part, possibly a few witty remarks from Danny, and then the happy couple spend a perfect evening together and that will be it.

Blah, blah, blah. So cliche it makes me gag.

But for some reason I'll read it anyway. And I would have, too, even if I hadn't swallowed ten pain killers today.

If I had any skills in designing webpages and something like endurance I would set up that elite archive I used to wish for...

.... What are charity auction fics?

Good luck finding good WaTfic! I've been looking for the last 2 months and nothing.... Nothing at all. And I don't even give the benefit of "otherwise good stories" if it wasn't for the terrible grammar, punctuation and spelling. I find that most of them lack terribly in the characterization department as well as having cliched and plain ANNOYING plots. I think overall, I don't like them. It is a very sad state of affairs. I even tried reading NON m/s fics and was still disappointed. Stupid........ GAH.

I love how you pretty much summed up all the cliches of MOST M/S fic lol. Musing Martin, Oblivious Sam, Witty Danny... BLah blah. Although, I really need an Angsty Sam to make it complete. Or maybe IRRATIONAL Sam. That seems to be rather common as well.

Irrational Sam
Musing Martin
Mature, all-knowing Viv
Angsty Jack
Smarmy Danny
(Slutty Elena ...hee)

Yeah, an elite archive would be sweet. I know there's a script/program that makes fic archives. But I haven't really read up on it more than that.

Mostly they're just stupid. ;) It's stories where characters are auctioned away for charity. The bidders then win a dinner with the auctioned off parties. Of course the author's favorite couple 'win' each other (who wins who all depends on whether it's men or women who are being thus exploited in the story) and romance ensues. Usually there's a bidding war with some unworthy stranger or former love interest, whose bids make the bidding half of the couple realize either that he/she must come to the rescue of the (wo)man they have been secretly in love with for the longest time, or "Zomg! I'm totally in love with that person. Why didn't I see that before?"

Did that make sense? *is confused*

But there USED to be good stuff, right? Why isn't it still out there somewhere? I don't mind that it's old, I just want it to be good. Why is that too much to ask??

Script? Program? How much easier would that be... I went kinda crazy last night and wrote the beginnings of an FAQ (Because it seemed an easy place to start and I was feeling snarky) and found a host and everything. Basically, all I need now is a layout and some graphics. Oh, and stories. Which is where I get stuck.
